Report

Report: Having been jilted at the altar of the new season by the debonair strawberry blonde man-about-town, Mr Matt “Judas” Woart, the question on everyone’s mind was, “would he actually be missed?”

In a bittersweet irony, the club’s purportedly finest played host to David Lloyd B in the inaugural fixture of the new season. Ironic, given Matt is now swaggering about town draped over the collective arm of DL A.

With DL B missing a few squad regulars, DL B fielded a few call-ups, which deprived the hosts of a potentially fascinating encounter at string 2, where Matt is still ranked according to official DL B nominations. As it happens, Matt was hanging out with his new chick in Prem 1, being a taught a hasty lesson in love.

As for the match-up on the night, fresh from doing absolutely nothing pre-season that could remotely pass for training, Lloyd was on fire. With the reach of Inspector Gadget, he dominated the T and worked the four corners making life tricky for the always athletic Dave. First blood to Risca.

Over on court two, Risca’s own call-up saw Kyle making a return to first team action. In a battle that often favoured lobs, including off the serve, Kyle nicked the fourth and final set having been 11-7 up at one point, before being settled by a tie break, with Kyle calling set one and securing the W on a lob to the right-hand corner that was fractions of a millimetre below the red tape; or in an alternative universe, Schrodinger’s cat might have observed the ball transgress the red line. Reality is perceptual subjective.

Ben and Dan were getting nicely acquainted at string 4 with both players opting to play as if connected via a squash placenta that bound them inexorably together mainly in the middle channel of the court. Concurrently entertaining and in breach of all known health and safety etiquette, Dan perhaps had other things on his mind, jetting off as he was for the laid-back choons of Café Del Mar, before no doubt heading off to have it large at DC10.

My run out with Mustafa was a close affair until Lewis told me to stop hitting the ball back to him. Which is ironic because that’s precisely what Lewis did when he took to court with Paul who promptly gave big Lewis a lesson in non-Euclidean geometry to secure a consolation string at 2.

So 4-1 to Risca on the night in a fixture played in great spirit, and which we dedicate to Matt x.
