Report

Report:Full match report by Tim E

A Geordie and a South African walked onto a squash court. Sounds like an opening to a joke. But no. This was an opening to a thrilling top of the table clash that would have made squash TV if it hadn't have been for Cowbridge's excessive high advertising demands. At 1 game each going into the 3rd it was tense. Both players played clean with every effort made to reach the ball it was a pleasure to ref. But it was Dan that cleaned up and took what looked to be a 5 setter 3-1. I was going to post a link to the post match interview but no one could tell what either were saying so I've left it out.

Next up The golden retriever stepped onto the court. Sleek, beautiful and reliable there are many similarities with Tim and the canine companion but don't be fooled, Tim could still smash one in a race. Abby immediately ruffled his fur however. Her width and length was just too good and she dispatched him in the first. Not one known to give up Tim dug his claws in and drew another match out to a 5 set thriller. With his dogged determination he ran her down and pulled off a pawsome victory against a quality squash player. Too many puns? Nahhh. Quit hounding me.

Simon known for his years of experience on the squash court must have given him an edge in this tie. Luc however with half of his experience made it all up in good 'ole line and length. While Simon put up a fight it was just not his day against a quality opposition. While beaten convincingly, Paul offered some words of concillation describing his hands as particularly crafty. Not what Si was after but I'm sure the crafty silver fox will be back to his winning days before too long.

Al prewarned us that he had had a particularly heavy one at the weekend with the rugby. Not his usually ruthless squash but we think he was trying out alternative sports on the court tonight. With a back swing that Tiger Woods would have been proud of Chris had to wait his turn. Sadly this wasn't the Masters that Al turned up for and after a multitude of low drives into the tin, calling Chris a lanky bastard and a few efforts at fly fishing it was over for him. 2-2 and an early bedtime for Chris. It had been a long day to be fair.

The finale was up to Chris and Dec. Having been described as "curvaceous" last week, Chris had had his feelings hurt but not his determination. Dec had made the most of his opportunity on pancake night and already sunk 8 pancakes pre squash. Not what a man on a diet wanted to hear. Possibly not recommended for peak athletic performance and at 2-2 in games may have been the decider in a closely fought match. Chris boasted his way to a win and led Cowbridge to a narrow victory.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks for Paul for buying a round of drinks for everyone after the game. Top bloke, top team. Pie and chips for all. Good to see, even after his victory Chris was still showing dedication on and off the court in taking a special sized plate for a special sized man. So proud.
