Report

Report:With the great British pie shortage continuing to sweep through South Wales, it was with an air of trepidation that Cowbridge hosted this week's visitors David Lloyd.

With no one else about, the home side released the Silver Fox to sniff out some early points. Unfortunately for Simon, David Lloyd had brought their very own XL bully dog Paul, who was illegally unmuzzled and quickly mauled his opponent to make it 1 nil to the away team.

Over on Hamlet, part time serious athlete / part time 'spoons regular Al was evidently shaking off a heavy one and Matt was making the most of the loose shots. Al had to get tighter but sadly he got too tight and took a clip to the nose off Matt's back swing. After a short injury break to stem the flow of blood (later diagnosed as a 'slight graze' by the team medic) Al tidied things up and made it all square.

It was looking like a busy night for Tim at the makeshift surgery, with Al's bust nose (graze), Simon's bruised ego and Dan's mysterious hand injury, but once his medical duties were done it was a nice leisurely run out for the self-titled Golden Retriever. Paul kindly threw a few balls for Tim to chase but nothing was left un-fetched and it was all over in straight sets. There's a good boy. 2-1 Cowbridge.

Like a true club legend, James took a break from his 5 hours of teaching per fortnight to play for the B's tonight and was sent onto the middle court to do a job. His actual job was to test the sturdiness of the sponsorship that had been recently mounted onto the tins but uncharacteristically for the Tin Man, he barely touched them and in a superb display, he sent his opponent Raj for an early shower. 3-1 Cowbridge.

In the final game Chris and Dave got started and both players looked well up for it. Like 2 souped-up sports cars in a drag race, this was an all-out sprint with some unbelievable court coverage and ball retrieval. The game got closer the longer it went on and Dave was unlucky not to pull more than one back but in the end it was curvy Chris who crossed the line first giving Cowbridge a decent 4-1 win.

Over in RC HQ, the disappointment of dropping 2 points was matched by the lack of pastry and warm meat, leaving the players wondering if there'll ever be an end to this living pie-less nightmare.
