Report: | Oasis once sang "it's good to be back" and tonight the B's were finally reunited and ready to start their tour of South Central 1 after last year's epic promotion! Hello!
Last season's promotion rivals Rhiwbina were in town, enjoying the new decor at the club but looking to spoil the party.
Al had spent the first half of the summer trying to rid the world (or at least Waitrose) of Rioja but more recently had kicked the Cigarettes & Alcohol into touch and was looking sharp as a result. Whilst the drink was under control, his barnet wasn't and he needed to wear a dodgy headband to get through the game. He won 3-1, getting the home team off to a promising start and Andy was, in his own words... 'done'.
After a lengthy absence from squash, which saw him start playing golf again and even join a darts team, (desperate!) Dan was delighted to be back on court but faced a familiar opponent in Abby and knew it wasn't going to be easy. When Abby gets going She's Electric and with the lanky loser lacking match fitness, the game began to Slide Away. 1 all.
Tim had spent the summer making babies and running marathons and was complaining about croc blisters, at least I think that's what he said, probably picked up the injury from one of those activities. He thought his luck was in when Luke Elsby turned up and appeared to have aged 30 years since last season. Unfortunately for Tim it was his dad! Different bloke but same high standard of squash and the golden retriever just had to Roll with it! 2-1 Rhiwbina.
If Luke had aged, Simon had gone the other way and the silver fox rocked up in his new hoodie, school shorts and skate shoes! Some Might Say it's not possible to weave another Oasis pun into this one so over to you Avril. He's just a skater boy, Chris said see ya later boy, he wasn't good enough tonight. 3-1 down.
With the team match lost it was up to Chris, our very own Welsh International racketballer (cos no-one else turned up for trials) to lift the crowd. He didn't. In fact, he was 2 nil down and looking Half a World Away while Danny appeared to be cruising to victory. This seemingly foregone conclusion was dramatically turned on its head when Chris pulled one back and the call had to be made to turn the oven down and save the pies from burning! Danny realised the importance of the situation and quickly closed the game out making it a tough 4-1 loss for Cowbridge.
This is already looking like it could be a tough season but we'll do our best, have some fun and won't look back in anger. |
