Report

Report:Match Report [by Tim E]

The title chasers were on for what could be critical in obtaining some elusive South Central silverware.

Both got there early and both eager to shed blood. Tim N and Rich took to the court. Tim with a new shoulder and a half marathon under his belt looked unstoppable. Until that was when he was stopped by Rich. It looked tight. It looked close. It looked like a game that needed to be watched to write about convincingly.

Back from holidays and injury which made him have to give up smoking. Tim E was sluggish and out of practice. Serving 50% into the court next door didn't help him react to Chris' neat squash. Having found himself 2 down and due an early shower he found the unbeatable form of last season. Snatching a game like snatching a toddlers favourite toy, Chris was left wanting. Unfortunately this was squash not running. Tim forgot this and while beating the ball on several occasions for pace he found no points in this tactic. 2-0 Penarthians.

Looking desperate Cowbridge needed a miracle. Chris and Alex were next. Alex comfortably cleaned up the first 6 points and it wasn't looking good for the home side. Then to the surprise of the onlookers Alex must have left the hob on at home. This seemed the only scenario possible. He promptly lost as fast as he could and as you would left the club as soon as possible to get home. Could someone give him a call or something just to make sure he's alright?

4th game. James and Duffy. The "Hello magazine" reporters were sadly locked out but that didn't matter. These guys flaunted it regardless. I mean they both just looked great. James sporting a new pair of shin length corduroys and friendship bracelet to match didn't realise his opponent would come with several outfits to match the mood. Making Fat Boy Slim back in the 90's look like a schoolboy, Duffy was king in his salmon Hawaiian shirt. The squash was settled efficiently with Duffy taking the 3 games to nil but who cares? Both these guys are winners in my book.

5th and final. Simon and Chris were in for a battle. Each game looked like going either way and at 2-2 with a notably cagey win from Simon at 16-16 in the 2nd these guys were playing crisp squash. Then in an unprecedented series of events that saw the ref reverse his decision, Simon who recently had come back on court looked to have been shot in the knee. He fell to the floor like a sack of potatoes. There were mumblings from the stands. Was it curtains for Si? Was he faking it? Was this sabotage? Had he tripped over the referees guide dogs on the way back in? The blood didn't lie. However with the adage of retrospect the ketchup had gone missing from the clubhouse... regardless he got better. It was a nail biting finish to a great night and another 16-16 finish Si dispatched his opponent and dropped to the deck like he'd defeated the big boss in Super Mario Land.

Thanks and congrats to Old Pens. Great night. As usual the written account was pieced together by eye witness reports and may not represent true events.
