Full match report [Tim E]

10 of the leagues finest squash players met tonight in an electric sporting fixture that would leave no nail left unbitten.

First on centre court star signing Tony had the edge on Mike in the warm up. Described as a dwarf badly in need of a dentist, Mike struggled to see the ball go any higher than the tin. A game down he needed a pep talk from his team. Hit it higher. He did to be fair. Perhaps he overdid it mind. As the asbestos filled the air it was curtains for Mike. In the post match interview he was asked to describe his game in 3 words. These words cannot be repeated on such an esteemed forum but 2 of them rhyme with sucking tit.

At the same time Mikey + Kevin had taken to the stage. Mikey making his debut for the B's this season looked sharp as a knife. Sadly Kevin was a tough nut to crack and made it look easy as he boasted himself to a 2-0 lead. Coughing up roofing material in the 3rd allowed Mikey to steal a game and it looked like it was going to get interesting. Fortunately the dust had settled for Kevin to clinically take 3 points in the 4th.

1-1 and all to play for. I must say on arrival I had already clocked Simon in his matching colour co-ordinated tracksuit and knew this guy knew how to play squash. I didn't see the brand but it was probably well nice. Dan without his trusty pair of fila shorts looked intimidated from the off immediately shipping 5 points. He picked up mind stealing a few points here and there but Simon was always on his heels. Porthcawl found themselves 2-1 up.

Next up. The top seeds. Both in prime condition. At the top of their games. Right? We do feel sorry for Chris. Playing top seed he gets pitched with some quality opposition. But writing him off in this one would have been like writing off a ford fiesta. Reliable. Sturdy... Oh wait... Lewys didn't have a leg to stand on. I mean literally. Always wear a seatbelt. 2-2.

Having blamed a string of poor performances on "waxy ears" Tim had a point to prove but Darren was not going to submit easily. At one game each the next 2 that followed were tiring to watch. Both going to extra time. Darren called a cheeky 1 at 14-14 but Tim managed to scrunt one and take the game. Having found himself 13-8 up in the 4th Tim remembered Al Jenkins' (our missing B team comrade between alcohol rehab sessions) pep talk. "It's all on you, you have to win". He made it sound easy. The pressure got to Tim and he lost the next 14 points. 5-0 down in the 5th it wasn't looking pretty. He shook himself off. A combination of using all aspects of his racket with aggressive scoops and vicious patting of the ball back from the back of the court took Darren off guard. The match was over. Tim had taken it but fair do's to Darren who told us he still had juice left in the tank and was still planning on slipping a couple of the blue pills later.

Great night and thanks to Porthcawl and all those home team supporting members who made the trip. It must be said a win that was slightly tainted by Lewys having to go off with injury. That said Chris remarked "I'd have smashed him if he was fit anyway". Not my words.
