Report: Match Report:

With big Al’s injury looking more long term by the week, the B’s needed help again from their C team comrades and this week it was time for the Tax Lady to step up! Anna had actually been taking part in some parenting and was fresh from her kids’ Halloween party. Full of sweets and confidence Anna was cruising, took a 2 nil lead and was looking good. Catching her off guard, her opponent Yuji must have elected for ‘treat’ and Anna duly gave him one in the form of the next 3 games and the home team quickly found themselves 1 down.

Over on Hamlet, the 4th string match was underway and Tim found himself up against a very lively opponent. Like 2 hamsters on a wheel, this game had some energy! The pace was electric with some lung busting rallies. Tim, not to be outdone by Anna’s generosity, kindly allowed Christaan to come from 14-7 down to 14 all in the first before sorting himself out and taking it 17-14. It was business as usual after that early scare and Tim wrapped up the game 3 nil. All square.

Simon is rapidly becoming the team’s banker, not having lost a game this season. It was no different tonight. And even though he is mixing things up off-court, sporting a new grey beard and hiking apparel, things on-court remain unchanged. Just a steady stream of nice lengths, tasty lobs and well-groomed drives that are tighter than James’ new chinos. He soon wrapped up his match 3 nil to give Cowbridge a 2-1 lead.

After swapping the famous black and white colours of his beloved Cowbridge for an off-white grubby t-shirt in need of a wash, Luca was back on his old stomping ground, his home turf, where he learned the game, where he took his first steps even! Either way, he was back and was looking to bite the hand that used to feed him! His opponent tonight was Dan, who has been going through the opposite of a purple patch, a ‘brown patch’ maybe? and in a desperate attempt to break the trend, he had dug out last season’s lucky Fila shorts to see what they could do! Dan found himself 2-1 down, void of ideas and was staring down the barrel of another massive drop in squash levels when all of a sudden [after a great team talk from Anna that was much better than Alex’s] the lucky shorts reacted, there was still some magic in them and suddenly there was a flicker of light in the lifeless Geordie and he fought back to take the game 3-2!

Game over, 3-1 to Cowbridge and all that was left was for Chris to lose to James. Chris showed some grit and determination, ran for everything and even played a few drops but soon found himself 2 down. Up on the balcony the crowd gave their unwavering support, while texting the rugby club to tell them they could probably get the chips on. Chris finally went down 3 nil to a very tidy player who won’t lose many this season.

And whilst the students took advantage of the nice warm showers, we slowly made our way over to the rugby club. Words had been exchanged last week when it was discovered that the A team get real plates, so Chris had gone for it tonight with a carbohydrate banquet, on real crockery, with real cutlery and to top it off, some live music!!! But shhh, don’t tell Stacey.
