Report:Match Report

The title race was blown wide open tonight as Cowbridge failed to make the most of their home advantage and shut the door on promotion rivals Rhiwbina C. (And by title race, we obviously mean 2nd place!)

The away team turned up with a point to prove having lost the opposing fixture and wasted no time as they got busy racking up the points.

With Alex still out, maybe for the rest of the season, the B's called on the cream of the C team to help them out at 5 but Rhiwbina's Tim put in a true captain's performance and looked invincible as he piled on the pressure with superb shot selection and execution. Jon battled hard but the valiant veggie was unfortunately put away in straight sets. 1 nil Rhiwbina.

Over on Hamlet, Si was getting roughed up a bit by an inspired Connor in the 3rd string game. 2 nil down, out of sorts and out of ideas it looked ominous for Si, and for Cowbridge but hang on.... Simon doesn't lose! Thankfully he remembered this just in time, dug in and turned the game on it's head, winning 3-2. Either that or Connor was distracted by Simon's 'pervy uncle' style moustache! Movember or not, that thing's got to go! An amazing comeback though. All square!

In the 4th string match Tony and Tim were locked in a close fought duel. Tony was drawing on his vast experience and skill, whilst Tim was looking to use every bit of his racket to gain an advantage. Tony took the first on a tie breaker and fittingly, Tim took the 4th, and the match on another tie breaker, scuffing the ball just above the tin to put the home team 2-1 ahead.

Dan was keen (again) to try and find some form and more importantly, get more than just a ref point for his team. This week he tried some pre match music on the way to the club and arrived super pumped! Off to a flying start, things were looking good but his mind drifted towards the thought of a nice win. Abby had other ideas and played some immense squash, pulling out some big hits which left the big man rocking. It was back and forth for 4 games until Abby knuckled down and knocked the long limbed no2 out in the 5th to make it 2-2 and game on!

So the number 1's, Chris and Andrew took to centre court to decide which team would take the tie and the coveted 4 bonus points. Chris, who skived off work to play last week, achieved true hero status by leaving his death bed to play tonight, having given himself food poisoning at the weekend from a dodgy chicken curry. Andy was not going to waste the opportunity and went hell for leather while Chris sweated out the badly cooked Balti. Not even a hot napkin could save him as Andy took the game 3 nil, winning the match for Rhiwbina.

Over in the rugby club there was a Christmassy vibe. Bit early like but the food was banging, as usual and the beers were refreshing. Well done Rhiwbina. Great game and with only 4 to go, the race for second place is truly on!
