Report

Report:[Match report by Tim E]

The season is drawing to a close and Cowbridge were out for blood on this dark December night. With a strong chance of promotion (providing both Cardiff Uni and Rhiwbina both manage minus points in their final fixtures). A Christmas miracle is all we need.

Having enjoyed the infamous position of biggest team banker this year, Simon was first up to the plate and he didn't disappoint. Ruthlessly dispatching Dan in 3 games. Dan worked hard to ensure there wasn't an upset by doing his best to hit every shot back even if the Banker was clearly blocking his path. That's what Bankers do. Firm. Reliable. What an absolute Banker.

Tim was up next. Fuelled up on 2 packs of red Leicester mini cheddars (which if you haven't tried are way cheesier than the original flavour) got off to a running start. As usual his unorthodox style and ability to make contact with all aspects of the racket, shocked Rhi into a few too many unforced errors. Getting her teeth into the 3rd Tim just managed to frame his way to victory.

Meanwhile Dan and Badt had kicked off on centre court. It's been a while since I've seen the ball break the sound barrier but Badt consistently managed to achieve this on his forehand strokes. Fortunately Dan had a few tricks of his own. Faster than a Geordie can say "book" he had wrapped up the game 3 nil.

Big Al. Back from injury. Back from rehab. Back to fighting form. It was great to see him on court again. Pinging the ball from side to side he took the first game with ease. Following a dodgy fishing trip for a let in the second game he did that thing that Al does and forgot he was trying to win. Tim capitalised on this + took a game. At 1-1 it looked like it could swing either way. Not for Al however who collected the 3 points and went straight to the bar for a diet coke. Athletes don't drink.

If this league website could support GIFs I would sum up this game in 3 seconds. Sadly it does not and I can only bore you with text. Chris and Alex both formidable opponents had a game a piece and it looked like a tasty ending. What however Alex didn't realise was that Chris enjoyed a dabble in the so called "leisure centre boast". The ball floating so high mesmerising it's opponent who could only look the wrong way baffled at the use of so many angles. It was close. It was nail biting. A shot selection like a box of chocolates. Alex just didn't know what he was gunna get. If only there was a gif for that...

Beers. Pies. Chips. Sprouts. Yes. You heard it. Cowbridge Squash Club continues to deliver outstanding end of match teas. Fact. What more could you ask for? Well we didn't think anything until Cardiff Ds Tim asked if his sprouts could be furnished with pine nuts and prosciutto. Sadly not provided. Please note it's BYOPN in the future. Great night. Thoroughly enjoyed, thanks Cardiff D.
