| Report: | And so Risca’s purportedly finest’s brief sojourn into the heady heights of Prem B has reached its inevitable conclusion: another tough night. There were however couple of fine performances for Lloyd and Matt, taking on opponents with far healthier squash levels. Matt in particular deserves mention, playing as he did ahead of a double knee replacement op that will hopefully also serve to calm his penchant for arguing with old people.
Also a worthy of mention is Kyle, who leaves the As to take up his place in the local curling team. Thanks for playing this season Kyle, and thanks for trying your best to stay on your feet: proud and erect. Just the occasional collapse in a flaccid heap for you this autumn. Godspeed.
With the curtain drawn on this chapter, the team can now look forward to a well-earned breather, perhaps reflecting on moments of grit and flashes of brilliance that punctuated an otherwise challenging campaign. We completed all our games, with a full squad and that sets us apart from some of our more recent forebears who won promotion from EC1. Yay us! The camaraderie, banter and undiminished spirit in the face of adversity remain the squad’s true triumph, and there’s every reason to believe that next season will bring a renewed hunger, smarter knees and, if we’re lucky, fewer surprise collapses. Until then, keep your rackets swinging and your balls bouncing —here’s to fresh starts and new adventures, both on the court and, for some, on the ice. |
