| Report: | If you'd walked into the club tonight, you'd have been forgiven for thinking that Cowbridge had opened a crèche, such was the average age of this week's opponents.
Dan turned up to find the away team were all here and behaving well under the watchful eye of leader Sam. The Geordie General had been psyching himself up all afternoon for the match but faced the nicest of opponents in young Liz. U15 and talented, it won't be long before she starts wiping the floor with old blokes like him. He took the match 3 nil but lacked any killer instinct. He must be getting soft!
Binary Al, all zeros tonight, had a different approach and took no prisoners as he faced the up and coming Ben in the string 4 match. The middle game was close but he also did the job in straight sets. Massive thanks to Sam for reffing this one while we waited for the divas to arrive!
Tim had been prescribing himself the fat jab all summer and was looking cadaverously thin! The rest of the B team, each with their own personal battles against ageing and slowing metabolisms, looked on with envy. The retriever had his work cut out tonight as Jacob played some very tidy squash but he came good and took the match 3 nil. (Just)
Chris (most improved player - on the basis that everyone else is getting worse) went on next against another teenager, Frankie who was rapid and good - the worst combination for a 40 odd year-old bloke to face. But the Ice Man still has a good engine on him and the 15-1 second game was a bitter 'Pill' to swallow for the Rhiwbina runner and will do wonders for Chris' squash levels!
With all the kids firmly on the naughty step it was up to Sam, the designated grown up, to save the day but Jimmy was in no mood for charity and was soon having a word with himself for not hitting his targets. Sam played well and ran his heart out but struggled to disrupt the master chocolatier in his work as he delicately placed the ball in all the right places.
A good 5 nil win and it was off to the rugby club for some live music and warm meat wrapped in thick pastry. Oh my god we've missed this! |
