Report

Report:Match Report [By Chris D]

As we approach the half way point, it was Hirwaun B’s opportunity to show Cowbridge B’s the taste of defeat. They turned up with an army of the best supporters ever, and Cowbridge had their very own ex-best captain ever and his trusty side kick to watch the spectacle that was about to unfold….

As per usual – with the prima donna’s at 1 and 2 trying to battle it out to see who can arrive latest, there were more spectators than Cowbridge Players to start with.

Sean stepped up from the C Team to represent the B’s at 5 and you could see the pressure had been building. Not just turning up to defend his ‘Tallest Player’ award from last season, Sean wanted to show that he can still deliver results at this level. He didn’t disappoint, not as cheery as the local DPD guy, he delivered the first 3-0 for Cowbridge and set the tone for the evening. 1-0.

Simon on Court next against Bob. Not sure what happened on court… but the normal rock like, swinging brick of emotion that the silver fox brings to team games was allegedly brought to tears in the showers afterwards… What happens in there, stays in there Simon… stay strong… The score card shows another 3-0 win and Cowbridge well on their way to another victory.

Vice Captain and qualified ref… The Raging Bull was up next. Facing a beast of a man in Richard who had brought the lions share of supporters who were all out to see the gun show as he donned his lucky Blue Vest to try and dispatch Alex in no time at all. Sadly for Richard – those guns were firing blanks tonight, bullets hitting nothing but tin and air. Alex keen to avenge his only loss of the season last time he played 3 was on fine form and gave another 3-0 win for Cowbridge securing the win for the team before the prima donna’s even got out of bed. What a team.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend – It was the Ice Man Chris at no 1 that turned up first and found Morgan talking himself up “I’m faster than fast, quicker than quick. I’m Lightening”… Chris brought the Thunder though. Ka-Chow, I am speed. Skating around in his luminous trainers – there was no ball Chris couldn’t get to. The Ex-Best Captain ever stepped up to mark as the Early B teamers went off to the bar to avoid reffing as this one looked like it could be difficult to keep track of. It felt like no time at all and Morgan was donning his Lightening McQueen crocs ready for a fine dining experience he’d heard so much about at the rugby club. We had a word with Chris behind the bar and he relaxed the usual formal shoe rules for one night only.

Eventually, Mr Prima Donna himself showed up and went straight into the changing rooms ready to put on a show. After that, he emerged on court and tried his best to build the tension, winning the first 17-16… After finding his groove and hearing that the rest of the team hadn’t ventured into game 4 or 5 as they were saving that for when the Current Best Captain Ever and previous Tallest Player returns from sunny Spain – he dispatched Howard in 3 giving Cowbridge the perfect 3-0s all around…. AND STILL….. Undefeated with just an easy win next week against the C Team before we all go again.

As we all retreated to the bar for our personal favourite, Pie, Chips and Beans. Sean was heard to say that sometimes a group of amazing people just come together and create some thing perfect… That set Simon off with the tears again… but it turns out he was talking about Led Zeplin and not Cowbridge B’s. As a guest on the team, he was also able to share some pretty interesting pie eating techniques – he’ll lift the lid on that next time.

All that’s left is for The Northern Wendy House to write the scores in his booooook and check the finances ready for the B’s vs C’s and his trusty return (to the bench).
